Renowned for the many pristine white beaches that can be found here, Formentera is located south of Ibiza, with which it forms the Pitiusic Islands, along with a range of small islets. Since the 1960s, the island has been a popular destination for the hippy community. Nude sunbathing is allowed on most of the beaches and due to the island's flat shape, cycling is a great way to discover the natural environment. Just north, the island of Espalmador is a popular stop for vessels en route from Ibiza to Formantera. During low tide, it's possible to wade through the waters from Formantera to Espalmador.
